I've been with Netspend for over 5 years and I thought they were a reputable company unitl 3 years ago when my account started to get hacked and mystery charges began to show up. Every payday, an unknown charge would post as soon as my direct deposit posted. I review my account regularly to monitor my spending and balance so when I noticed a $50 charge every 2 weeks as well as unknown signature purchases made in other states. Each time I contacted customer service, I spoke to someone who could barely speak english or understand what I was saying to them. They would state that I would have to file a dispute of the charges and provide proof that I didn't make the purchases. I was treated as if I was lying about the unauthorized charges and told that I shouldn't give my card to anyone. I am not a child and know how to protect my card and pin. The unauthorized charges were being made without having a physical card presented as well as the posts would be texted to my phone as soon as they hit. Each account *** was "corrected" by issuing a new card attached to the same account number and my funds were not returned. I informed Netspend customer service that I wanted a new account as well as a new card and I had to pay for it. Not only did I pay for a new card but I paid the expedited delivery fee and had to wait even longer for the delivery.

Once upon recieving a new card, I noticed that the envelope had been opened before delivery as well as the card had been activated. When I reported this to Netspend, customer service stated that I should file a complaint with UPS (who delivered the envelope). I did and the driver was reviewed and the package was proven open before it left the Netspend company. Netspend did not have any further information or explanation. I informed them that I would be researching lawyers to find help with their fraud and identity theft issues and would be reporting them to the BBB.

Upon filing my last complaint regarding the safety of my account, the account hacking and the trustworthiness of the Netspend employees, I learned that Netspend also provides my current employer with their paycard accounts through Skylight, of which several other co-workers had account issues with, so I couldn't even use my employers personal paycard system without being still connected to Netspend!

Due to these account hacks/ identity theft issues I have endured utilities being shut off, bills being paid late and late fees, having to go without food, neccessities or money for several days while awaiting corrections to my account, all while being treated like a thief! And it's My Money! The Netspend corporation has to be held accountable for this and should be made to pay. The proof is in my account statements, fraud reports made to the company, and text messages regarding my account(s).

Reason of review: Fraud & stolen funds.

Monetary Loss: $3000.

Preferred solution: Full refund.

Netspend Cons: Being treated like a thief of my own money, Failure to protect my money on their end, Rude non understanding representatives.

Location: Louisville, Kentucky
